Kentucky Derby

Published by Al Adomite on May 1st, 2008

Many of you might not be preparing for this weekend like you’d prepare for Superbowl weekend, but Saturday is the 134th Running of the Kentucky Derby. It’s a BIG DAY around our house.

My wife LOVES the Derby. I took her to the 132nd Derby (in 2006) and learned it’s much cheaper to have a party at home and watch it on the big screen (even if you have to buy the big screen).

Here’s our obligatory derby photo, taken in the paddock area.

The Derby is something every sports fan should try to do at least once in their life. I just think a suit is rather dressy attire for a sporting event.

The early favorite this year is Big Brown, in case your keeping track. But shouldn’t we be rooting for Recapturetheglory, the winner of the Illinois Derby? My favorite will be Colonel John, a horse bred by WinStar Farm, which is headquartered right next door to Woodford Reserve on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

You sure the picture wasn’t taken at one of the NASCAR events you attend?
And where is your mint julip?

I would just like to comment, that my mother called me the moment she saw your shiny face on the front page of her Collinsville Journal. She INSISTED I tell you and Gordy. I retorted with the fact that you gab a whole lot, and have probably told Gordy 15 times by now.. ;-P Hope all is well. Best wishes!
