Final Vote?
Published by Al Adomite on May 20th, 2008
The Madison County Board meeting agenda is posted for Wednesday night’s meeting. I had received a few phone calls about the possibility that the board might be voting officially to close the sheltered care home.
There is an item posted under the Executive Committee to authorize expenses related to the home’s closing. Not sure if this is the dramatic vote the opponents have been looking for, but it might be.

Seems like my original comment went into internet never never land.
Try again.
With the official closing vote of the shelter care facility to take place tomorrow, the county board should take steps to eliminate the special purpose tax for this facility. It will take some time to make sure the current residents find good care. The county should not rush this process. I am confident Republican board member DR. Chris Wangard, Chair of the committee overseeing the closing, will make sure it is done with the best interest of the residents in mind.
It would seem like the best time to eliminate this tax is in the budget in December. A reserve could be set up to take care of future expenses related to the closing.
Otherwise this tax will just continue and the money used for purposes other than originally intended.
