BiPartisanship In Times Of Need

Published by Al Adomite on June 12th, 2008

True displays of bipartisanship are rare these days.  I think bipartisanship itself is becoming more of a bad word in political circles, something that should raise suspicion about those involved, more than a genuine ability to put voters before gamesmanship.

That’s why I think it’s worth recognizing this little story today from Chicago Democrat (and perhaps the best legislator-blogger) John Fritchey about his correspondence with his downstate friends of the other party:

You always hope that disaster doesn’t strike close to home or affect those who you care about. When news of the flooding in downstate Illinois first broke, I called my friend Rep. Roger Eddy to see if there was anything that we could do up here to be of any assistance.

Roger called me after doing a fly-around to tell me that the damage is pretty extensive and that perhaps the most useful thing that could be done by private citizens is also one of the easiest.

Nice to see some compassion.  Here’s the info on donating:

    Thanks for the nod Allen.

Unfortunately, sometimes people get so caught up in politics, they forget about what really matters. Hopefully, something like this will remind them.
